Three important lessons my morning workout routine taught me

Mornings can be challenging. Sometimes one wants a applause just for getting up in time and not having to rush through the morning routine before the long day ahead. However, I have found over the years that by getting up even earlier to workout, has actually helped me in several ways. Check out my three most important lessons from my workout routine.

  1. My metabolism is boosted in the morning as I get the benefit of the afterburn-effect, also known as excess post-exercise oxygen consumption (EPOC). Without going into detail, it essentially means that with an early morning workout I affect how my body converts nutrients. Funnily enough, I saw the effects and then read up on it. For those of you who are curious, EPOC is highly effective when doing circuit training and heavy resistance training.
  2. By working out several mornings in the week (yeah, not every day in my case, but a steady 4-5 days a week), I built a routine and over time became aware that my awareness of my body grew. In short, I became more consistent with my fitness regimen by incorporating morning workouts into my lifestyle.
  3. I felt much more energized at the beginning of the work day. Well, usually! Some days will be more difficult, yet, I find that my endurance and ability to concentrate is boosted overall by working out in the mornings.
